The Two Stages of a Blushing Problem
Most people that suffer from a blushing problem do not class it as a phobia initially. They are aware that they blush easily and, though it does trouble them, it does not change their lives in any important way. They may just put it down to their health or a passing phase and so can get on with their lives as usual.
However, when the blushing problem does not seem to pass, especially if it appears to get worse, it can become a formidable phobia that makes your life hell for some time. What is most annoying is that other people cannot see it.
Like any other phobia, Erythrophobia starts off innocuously enough but progresses over time. It distinctly occurs in two stages - the first stage of blushing easily every now and again, and the excessive blushing that comes as your self-consciousness increases.
Erythrophobia can affect you physically as well as mentally. It can get so bad that you might spend all your time worrying about it. In fact, the more you worry, the more you will blush.
Blushing easily may only happen a small number of times a week but excessive blushing is a few times a day. Blushing easily may only actually be slight blushing but the latter is often intense and will mentally consume you.
This can be very bothersome and some people get embarrassed because of excessive blushing. However, you can learn to take control over your blushing over a period of time. You can increase your resistance to it, so to speak, and also reduce the severity of your blushing.
Once you start dealing with the problem of excessive blushing then it becomes easier over time, but actually starting to deal with the problem is most difficult for any individual. Any negativity will be used to talk yourself out of it and you may become overwhelmed by self-pity. This is not helped by the fact that very few people understand the phobia, unless they suffer from it themselves of course.
However, if you continue to battle against the problem of excessive blushing, you will soon find that it becomes easier as time passes. Your progress will persuade you to carry on with your self-help. One small ray of hope is all it takes for you to find that it becomes much easier to handle your blushing problem. You can even begin living a normal life again.
